Melbourne Suites
A popular new form of accommodation in Melbourne is suites. Suites are in most cases apartments, comprising a bedroom, seperate living room, and kitchen. All are en-suite (have their own bathrooms), and some even have a laundry. Many hotels are now featuring suites as part of their accommodation mix, these hotels are called 'hotels and suites'. Some properties also feature studio apartments, or suites, which generally mean hotel rooms, with a kitchenette. When looking for suites in Melbourne, or for that matter anywhere in Australia, be aware that the names can vary. Most US hotel chain properties will be labelled 'suites', whereas the domestic operators such as Medina, Mirvac and Metro Hospitality Group, refer to suites as 'apartments'. Pacific International, another Australian operator, uses both terms as they have a number of properties in each city, and it assists their differentiation. In the last few years suites have proliferated in Melbourne, as they have in most Australian cities. You'll find them in key CBD locations, in the outer city areas, and in the suburbs.
